“Bye, Mom! Bye, Dad!” Jane and Jack shouted to their beloved parents as their parents left the house.

Jane and Jack had a great time eating popcorn, watching movies, jumping on beds, and reading. But then they heard a Boom, Crash, Bang, and Crack outside.

“What’s that?” they both said and rushed to the window. The trash can lid rolled into view.

“Let’s go fix it,” Jack said. “It’s probably just a stray cat.”

“OK,” said Jane unhurriedly.

They ran down the stairs and to the front door. Once they were outside, they put the trash can lid back on the trash can and started back to the front door. But then they saw some footprints and decided to follow them. Then the footprints suddenly stopped.

“Close your eyes and put your hands in the air,” bellowed a monstrous voice behind them from a bush.

Jane and Jack were so scared! Then they heard shouts of laughter.

After a minute, they started laughing, too. It was Halloween, and their mom and dad had just left to get candy, then scared them when they saw them outside.

Happy again, they went inside and finished their movie. They had a great rest of the evening with their parents.
