“Good morning, James,” Mom said to me as I walked in to the dining room for breakfast.

“Good morning, Mom. After lunch, can I go play with Jamie?” I asked.

“Yep,” Mom answered.

Breakfast was delicious. “Thanks, Mom!” I said. I had waffles. They were so good.

At Jamie’s house, we couldn’t think of anything to play. “Hey, I have an idea! We could go on a hike!,” Jamie shouted happily.

“Great idea. You ask your mom and I’ll asked mine,” I replied.

Jamie ran inside and I ran home to ask my mom. Thankfully, they both said yes. So on we went, walking on little gravel paths over bridges and through the trees.

“Do you know what would be funny?” Jamie asked. But he didn’t wait for an answer. If fairies and werewolves and dragons and things like that were real, that would be funny. But there was no time to laugh because we became lost.

Jamie’s eyes grew so big that I though they might pop out of his head. “What! We can’t be lost! I have a big basketball game tomorrow and I’m starving!” Jamie exclaimed.

“I know, I know. I can’t help it, but it’s getting dark and we should probably get some sleep. Mom and Dad will find us soon,” I advised.

“OK, I guess that’s all we can do right now,” said Jamie.

“Yep, let’s lie down and get comfortable and sleep.”

I fell asleep hard and dreamed that I was in my bed. I had a big surprise when I woke up. I sat up, panting.

Jamie had woken up during the process. “What’s happened? Where are we?” he asked.

“We are in the woods, remember? We are lost,” I answered.

“Oh yeah, I think I know the way back. I was so tired, I forgot. But there is one problem. I’ve only been here once, so I might be wrong,” Jamie said.

“That’s OK, we might as well try,” I answered. Jamie nodded in agreement.

Jamie led the way and we finally made it to the bridge. “We’re going the right way!” Jamie exclaimed.

We ran across the bridge and over the hill. Then we both stopped, realizing that we were almost home. Just one more woods left.

Once we got to the woods, Jamie and I slowed to a walk and came to another bridge. As we crossed it, I was amazed. There were white rushing waters, misty sky, smooth and slippery moss and mud, and the crisp and fresh smell of grass. It was an amazing thing to see.

Just then, we heard, “GRRR. GRRR. ROARRRR!” I slowly turned around to find a bear in front of us!

“Jamie! Come on!” I practically shouted as I ran for my life. But then I stopped. Jamie is way faster than me and he should’ve been in front of me, but I didn’t see him. Jamie was back where I left him, frozen with fright.

I ran back, grabbed his arm, and pulled him away from where the bear was looking as angry as ever. Jamie must have jumped out of his senses and ran back into his sense as I was pulling him. He suddenly started running as fast as me.

We were almost home! Jamie and I said our goodbyes and headed back to our own homes. My parents were pretty mad, but at least that meant that they had been worried about me missing.

THE END
